1.8 Crore Maharashtra Voters Face Deletion From Draft Electoral Roll

Around 1.8 crore voters in Maharashtra may face deletion from the draft electoral roll as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls 2026, State Chief Electoral Officer S Chockalingam announced in Mumbai on Wednesday. The details were shared at a press conference following a meeting with political parties.

Data provided by the election chief shows that out of the state's total 9,78,54,049 registered electors, Enumeration Forms have been distributed to 9,69,54,766 voters, covering 99.08 per cent of the electorate.

However, only 7,60,98,153 forms—representing 77.77 per cent of total voters—have been returned, signed, and digitised so far. The remaining gap of approximately 1.8 crore unreturned or un-digitised forms leaves those electors at risk of being excluded from the draft roll.

The ongoing revision exercise aims to update and verify the state's voter records. The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on October 27.
