1-Year-Old Boy Dies After Being Run Over by Cab in Sakinaka, Andheri

A one-year-old boy died after being run over by an aggregator cab entering the premises of a residential building in Sakinaka, Andheri East, on the evening of August 15.

The deceased child, identified as Abdul Samad, lived with his family at Dosti Plaza on 90 Feet Road, situated opposite China Town Hotel. According to police reports, Abdul and his five-year-old elder brother were walking in front of the building around 6 p.m. on Saturday when a white cab drove in through the main gate.

Police said the elder brother managed to move away after spotting the incoming vehicle, but the one-year-old could not get out of the path in time. The cab, which was allegedly being driven rashly as it entered the Dosti Plaza premises, ran its front-left wheel over Abdul's chest, causing severe injuries.

The toddler's uncle, Javed Patel, witnessed the accident and immediately rushed the injured child in the same cab to Paramount Hospital in Sakinaka. Due to the critical nature of his injuries, doctors at Paramount Hospital referred him to Axon Hospital. The staff at Axon Hospital subsequently advised transferring the boy to Seven Hills Hospital in Andheri East. Abdul was declared dead at Seven Hills Hospital at around 7:30 p.m.

The child's father, 34-year-old Aslam Patel, who operates a lamination business, lodged a formal complaint regarding the incident.

Following the complaint, the Sakinaka police registered a First Information Report against the cab driver, identified as Mohammad Rizwan, 29, a resident of Ghatkopar West. Rizwan was booked under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for causing death by negligence. The police arrested the driver and later released him after serving a notice.
