105 Vashi Residents Demand Police Chowky at Mini Seashore After Teen's Murder

105 Vashi Residents Demand Police Chowky at Mini Seashore After Teen's Murder

Following the recent murder of an 18-year-old boy at Mini Seashore in Vashi, Navi Mumbai, 105 residents and morning walkers submitted a formal representation on October 3, 2026, demanding regular police patrolling and the activation of a local police chowky at the recreational area.

The two-day signature campaign was initiated by Vashi resident and activist Madhu Shankar, who engaged daily visitors and morning walkers to document their safety concerns. The completed representation was handed over to both the Vashi police and the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) to urge immediate security measures for families, women, children, and senior citizens.

A central focus of the petition is making the existing police chowky at Mini Seashore functional. According to residents, the chowky structure is currently occupied by NMMC security guards rather than police personnel. The signatories urged the immediate deployment of police officers to ensure official law enforcement action can be taken without delay whenever an incident occurs.

"Residents shared their experiences with me during the campaign. The main demand is that the existing police chowky should be made functional and there should be regular police patrolling in the area. NMMC security guards cannot take action in situations where police intervention is required," Shankar said. She added that while police officers were seen patrolling the area properly over the preceding few days, sustained security requires routine patrols and an operational chowky.

The campaign also brought out concerns regarding activities occurring in secluded sections of the recreation grounds. In addition to police deployment, residents asked authorities to improve overall infrastructure by setting up adequate lighting, installing CCTV surveillance, and trimming dense bushes around isolated corners.

The representation further called for beat constables, including women police personnel, to be stationed during peak morning and evening hours. Residents also requested the installation of warning boards and other preventive safety measures to maintain Mini Seashore as a secure public space.
