14-Year-Old Killed, Friend Injured as Speeding Tempo Hits Scooter on Ghatkopar-Andheri Road

A 14-year-old boy died and his friend was critically injured early Sunday morning after a speeding Eicher tempo rammed their scooter from behind near Jagruti Nagar Metro Station on the Ghatkopar-Andheri Link Road.

The deceased has been identified as Ganesh Sunil Mahamuni, 14, a Class IX student. His pillion rider and friend, Aryan Paswan, sustained serious injuries in the collision and is currently undergoing treatment at Rajawadi Hospital.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the incident took place around 5 am on Sunday. Ganesh had taken the keys to his family's Honda Activa scooter (MH 03 FG 1474) without the knowledge of his father, Sunil Narayan Mahamuni, 44, a Mathadi worker residing in Siddharth Nagar, Bhatwadi, Ghatkopar West. Ganesh then left home with Aryan for a ride.

The family typically parked the two-wheeler at Ramji Nagar Ground No. 2, near their residence. Ganesh was riding the scooter along the eastern carriageway of the Ghatkopar-Andheri Link Road, heading in the direction of Ghatkopar station, when the collision occurred.

Police said that an Eicher tempo bearing registration number KA 52 C 4402, which was allegedly being driven at high speed and in a rash and negligent manner, hit the two-wheeler from behind near the metro station.

Following the crash, an unidentified caller alerted Sunil over the phone about the incident. Sunil checked his home and discovered that the scooter keys were missing. He then went to Ramji Nagar Ground No. 2 and confirmed that the vehicle was not parked there.

Sunil rushed to the accident site on the Ghatkopar-Andheri Link Road, where he found Aryan injured. Local residents had already taken Ganesh to Rajawadi Hospital. Sunil accompanied Aryan to the hospital in an ambulance. Ganesh succumbed to his injuries during medical treatment, while Aryan remains hospitalised.

Based on a complaint filed by Sunil, the Ghatkopar police have registered a case against the driver of the Eicher tempo under Sections 106, 281, and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act. Police are conducting further investigations into the crash.
