17 families evacuated after balcony collapse at Belapur housing society

Seventeen families were evacuated from a residential building in Shahbaz Village, Belapur, Navi Mumbai, after a first-floor balcony slab collapsed on Saturday night.

The incident occurred at the Avighna Co-operative Housing Society at approximately 9:30 PM amid heavy rainfall. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Following the collapse, personnel from the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation’s (NMMC) Fire and Disaster Management Department reached the site. The emergency team inspected the structure to assess its safety.

As a precautionary measure, officials shifted the residents of all 17 flats to safer locations.

The incident has once again highlighted the deteriorating condition of Navi Mumbai's ageing residential buildings.
