17-Year-Old Girl Dies By Suicide After Alleged Rape In Amravati District

A 17-year-old girl has died by suicide in Amravati district, Maharashtra, after she was allegedly raped by her boyfriend under the false pretext of marriage. The teenager passed away during treatment at a hospital after consuming poison, leaving behind a detailed suicide note explaining her decision.

According to the police, the teenager took the extreme step out of fear of the social stigma and mental anguish her father would have to face if the news of the sexual assault spread. The victim had been in a relationship with the prime accused for approximately 10 months before the incident.

During their relationship, the two developed sexual intimacy after the boyfriend allegedly promised that he would marry her. The girl later alleged that she was raped by her boyfriend. Driven by the trauma of the assault and the intense fear of the disgrace that would fall upon her family, she consumed poison.

In her suicide note, the teenager wrote about her desire to protect her father from the social fallout of the event. "I cannot put any kind of stress on my father...," she wrote in the note before her death.

In the note, the girl also accused three other people of being involved in the crime. Along with her boyfriend, she accused her partner's friend and two of her own female friends of abetment to rape.

Following her death, the local police registered a formal case against all four individuals. The charges filed against the accused include rape, abetment to suicide, and multiple offenses under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. An investigation into the matter is currently underway to gather more details.
