25-Year-Old Woman Killed as Cement Mixer Hits Bike in Chembur

A 25-year-old woman was killed in Chembur on the evening of August 28 after a heavy cement-mixing vehicle struck the motorcycle on which she was travelling as a pillion rider near Muktanand High School.

The victim was identified as Dhanashree Dongre, an employee at a private company and a resident of Gautam Nagar in Govandi. The incident occurred around 6 pm on the occasion of Bhaubeej when Dhanashree and her younger brother, 20-year-old college student Manas Dongre, were heading towards Chembur railway station on a Honda Unicorn motorcycle (MH 03 CZ 9768) to exchange newly purchased clothes.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) registered by the Chembur police, the siblings were riding close to the Subhashnagar bus stop when a heavy vehicle used for mixing cement at construction sites (MH 46 DC 8186) approached their motorcycle from the right side at high speed. Manas reportedly attempted to yield space to allow the heavy vehicle to pass.

However, the heavy vehicle struck the right handlebar of the motorcycle. The collision caused Manas to lose control and fall towards the front of the two-wheeler, while Dhanashree was thrown to the right and trapped beneath the front tyre of the heavy vehicle.

Despite Manas shouting for help immediately after the impact, the driver did not halt the vehicle straight away. The vehicle was brought to a stop some distance down the road, after which the driver was found to be missing from the vehicle.

Dhanashree suffered critical injuries and was extricated from beneath the tyre with the help of police personnel and local residents. She was rushed to Zen Hospital, where doctors declared her dead during treatment.

Following a complaint lodged by Manas Dongre, the Chembur police registered a case against the driver of the heavy vehicle under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act. Further investigation into the incident remains underway.
