26-Year-Old Woman Survives 10th-Floor Fall in Bhandup West After Landing in Tree

A 26-year-old woman survived a fall from the 10th floor of a residential building in Bhandup West on Wednesday morning after getting caught in the branches of a large tree below. The incident took place at around 9.30 am at the Sunshine Co-operative Housing Society in Tulshhetpada.

The injured woman has been identified as Pratiksha Ankush Hiwarale. She sustained serious injuries during the fall, lost consciousness, and is currently undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit at Sion Hospital.

The incident triggered panic among residents in the housing society and nearby areas, who immediately alerted local authorities. Upon receiving the call, personnel from the Bhandup police station and the Mumbai Fire Brigade rushed to the site to initiate a rescue operation.

Fire Brigade personnel used a ladder to climb the tree and first secured Hiwarale by wrapping her safely in a cloth sheet. Rescuers then carefully cut through the tree branches to bring her down safely to the ground. The rescue operation was witnessed and recorded on mobile phones by local residents.

Following the rescue, Hiwarale was first rushed to Mulund General Hospital for preliminary medical care. She was subsequently shifted to Sion Hospital for advanced treatment in the emergency and intensive care facilities.

Police officials stated that they could not immediately record Hiwarale's statement because she remained unconscious in the emergency ward. An official endorsement regarding her medical condition has been obtained from hospital authorities.

The Bhandup police have launched an inquiry to determine the exact circumstances that led to the fall. According to investigators, Hiwarale had been married approximately four months ago. Her husband is currently being questioned as part of the ongoing inquiry, and her parents have been informed of the incident. Police confirmed that her statement will be formally recorded once doctors deem her fit, after which further legal steps will be determined.
