27-Year-Old Ambernath Resident Dies After Jumping Into Mumbra Creek From Train

A 27-year-old railway commuter from Ambernath died on Tuesday after jumping from a moving local train into Mumbra Creek between Diva and Mumbra stations in the early hours of the morning, civic rescue officials confirmed.

The deceased man was identified as a resident of Krishna Nagar in Ambernath. He was travelling aboard a slow Karjat-bound local train. According to police, preliminary inquiries into the incident revealed that when the train was crossing the railway bridge at around 2 a.m., the man suddenly moved towards the coach door and jumped from the train into the creek below.

Fellow passengers travelling on the local train were reportedly shocked by the incident and alerted the police at Diva station. Following the notification, rescue teams were called to the spot between Diva and Mumbra to begin search operations in the creek.

The search operation faced immediate difficulties due to weather and environmental conditions. Hemant Divate, station officer at the Mumbra fire station, stated that the search operation was initially suspended due to darkness and high tide.

The rescue operation resumed later in the morning. Yasin Tadvi of the Thane Disaster Management Cell reported that rescue workers found the man unconscious and trapped in a section of the creek.

Rescuers pulled the man out of the water and rushed him to a hospital, where attending doctors declared him dead.

Family friends of the deceased arrived at the spot during the rescue operation on Tuesday morning. They reportedly informed authorities that the man was possibly disturbed due to certain professional reasons.
