29-Year-Old Man Beaten to Death Over ₹250 Hotel Bill in Goregaon West, Two Arrested

A 29-year-old man was beaten to death with wooden planks in Goregaon West on Wednesday night after he stepped in to settle a dispute over a ₹250 restaurant bill. The Goregaon police arrested two suspects on Thursday in connection with the murder.

The deceased, identified as Mohammad Aziz Khan, worked as a driver and cement-gravel supplier from Prem Nagar. Khan had gone to Salman Hotel on Vasari Hill Road with his co-worker Rajesh Patel at around 11:45 pm.

According to police investigators, the accused—Vikas Paswan, 23, an office boy, and Ajay Upadhyay, 39—were patrons at the eatery who refused to pay their complete ₹250 bill. They offered ₹200 to the hotel operator, Danish Khan, leading to an altercation.

When Aziz intervened to resolve the dispute, the two accused allegedly turned on him and Patel, assaulting both men with their hands and wooden planks. Aziz suffered severe head injuries during the assault and collapsed on the street outside the eatery. He was rushed to Trauma Care Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The police stated that the two assailants fled towards Tiranga Building immediately after the attack. Police personnel and forensic teams later visited the scene and seized wooden fragments, a liquor bottle, and other items linked to the assault.

A case was registered under Sections 103(1) (murder), 115(2), 351(3), 352, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita following a formal complaint by the victim’s brother, Mohammad Habib Khan.

Investigators identified the two accused after examining CCTV camera footage from the vicinity and questioning eyewitnesses. Paswan was apprehended first, followed by Upadhyay. Both men will be produced before a local court on Friday.
