3000 HPCL LPG Cylinders Swept Into Patalganga River After Heavy Rain In Panvel

Around 3,000 filled and empty LPG cylinders were swept into the Patalganga River after heavy rainfall inundated the HPCL Patalganga LPG Bottling Plant at Chawane in Panvel taluka of Raigad district. The incident has prompted a widespread public appeal from the Raigad district administration and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) to help recover the missing cylinders.
According to details released by the district administration, the flooding occurred at Plot No. E-1/7 in the Additional MIDC area of Chawane. Heavy downpours caused floodwaters to enter the HPCL bottling facility, which subsequently carried away an estimated 3,000 LPG cylinders into the adjacent Patalganga River. The swept-away stock consists of both filled and empty cylinders.
In response to the incident, the Raigad district administration has issued an appeal to local residents who live along the river or in surrounding areas. Anyone who comes across any of the cylinders is urged to immediately hand them over to HPCL or to the nearest authorised HPCL LPG dealer.
Alternatively, residents can deposit any recovered cylinders at local administrative offices. The designated collection points include the office of the Tahsildar at Khalapur, the office of the Tahsildar at Pen, and the office of the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of Pen.
Government and company authorities have strongly urged the public not to retain, hide, or tamper with any of the recovered cylinders. They emphasized that returning the cylinders promptly is crucial to facilitate a safe recovery operation and to ensure the proper accounting of all the missing LPG cylinders.
