47-Year-Old Domestic Cook Wins 3-km Running Event in Ambajogai

Ramabai Ranveer, a 47-year-old domestic cook from Beed, secured first place in the "Amrut Daud marathon" in Ambajogai on August 29, 2026, taking home a cash prize of ₹3,000 to help support her daughters' education.

The 3-km running event covered a route stretching from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk to Bhagyanagar Chowk in Ambajogai. It was organised to mark the 75th anniversary of the Bharatiya Shikshan Prasarak Sanstha, an educational institution based in the Kholeshwar region.

Ranveer, who ran the race barefoot clad in a saree while holding her sandals in her hand, is the sole breadwinner of her family. She works as a domestic cook to support her two daughters following the death of her husband in an accident in Mumbai. One daughter is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree, while the other is preparing for the state police recruitment examination.

Her daughter, Pooja Ranveer, also participated in the competition and finished in second place. Pooja, who previously worked in farming before focusing on her police exam preparation, had encouraged her mother to take part in the run.

"My mother came in first position, and I came second. I told my mother to run alongside me. I told her that even if she came second or third, it would be fine, but she should not get tired during the race. She never gives up, and that has helped," Pooja Ranveer said.

Ramabai Ranveer stated that the prize money would be used directly to assist with her daughters' educational expenses.

"I run every day for my children’s future…today, I ran for myself and my children," Ranveer said. "I wanted to win; that is all I had on my mind. I will bring books and fulfil other needs of my children."
