50,000 Navi Mumbai Applicants Face Four-Month Delay For CIDCO Housing Lottery Refunds

Nearly 50,000 applicants who registered for the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) housing lottery in Navi Mumbai have been left in financial distress as of July 6, 2026. The planning authority has delayed the announcement of the lottery and withheld substantial deposit amounts for over four months, with no updates or refund options provided to the public.
The issue was highlighted by frustrated applicants who expressed serious concerns over the lack of transparency from the government body. Many of those affected belong to economically weaker sections of the community, for whom the withheld funds represent a significant financial burden.
According to local resident Nitin Vyas, one of the affected applicants, he had deposited a sum of Rs 2,00,000 on February 28, 2026. Vyas had submitted the deposit with the expectation of securing a home in Navi Mumbai through the government housing scheme. However, four months after the submission of these deposits, applicants have received no official communication regarding the progress of the scheme.
To date, CIDCO has neither declared a specific date for the housing lottery draw nor established a system or provided any option for applicants to request a refund of their deposited money. The lack of progress and communication has raised questions among citizens about the administrative handling of the housing scheme.
Applicants have voiced their deep concern over the situation, pointing out that a public government authority has collected very large sums of money from tens of thousands of citizens without taking subsequent action or offering any clarity on the timeline. With approximately 50,000 people impacted, the affected citizens are urging the authorities to address the delay and provide immediate clarity on the lottery status or refund procedures.
