500 Families Remain at Vidyavihar's Neelkanth Kingdom Despite BMC Evacuation Order

Nearly 500 families continue to reside at the Neelkanth Kingdom complex on Nathani Road in Vidyavihar West, months after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation ordered the property to be vacated due to safety concerns.

The civic body took formal action regarding the seven-building complex in February 2026. At that time, the BMC directed the land lessee, Vidyavihar Containers Ltd, along with the project's architect, to get the residential complex vacated in the interest of occupant safety. However, nearly six months after the directive was issued, close to 500 families remain living on the premises.

The continued occupancy at Neelkanth Kingdom follows previous safety violations documented at the site, which included a fire incident.

Attention on the Vidyavihar West site has renewed amid recent BMC enforcement actions against unauthorised structures at other major residential projects in Mumbai. These include civic crackdowns at Rustomjee Crown in Prabhadevi and judicially backed action at Wellington Heights in Tardeo.
