584 Tribal Ashram School Students Died Across Maharashtra in Last Two Years

A total of 584 students at government and aided tribal ashram schools across Maharashtra have died over the past two years, according to state government officials.

The disclosure follows widespread criticism of the Maharashtra government after three tribal girls died of snakebite at a residential school hostel in Gadchiroli.

According to a senior official from the state Tribal Development department, the recorded student deaths were attributed to multiple causes, including snakebite, serious illness, sickle cell disease, accidents, and suicide.

The fatalities span residential ashram schools across the state that cater to tribal students, bringing state-run and government-aided boarding facilities under intense scrutiny.
