7 Dead, 4 Injured in Chirag Nagar Landslide Amid Heavy Rain
Seven people were killed and four others were severely injured after a landslide struck Gaushiya Chawl in Chirag Nagar in the early hours of Wednesday amid heavy rainfall in Mumbai. The incident was reported at approximately 3:48 am near Rathod Medical.
Following the collapse, emergency authorities launched a major rescue operation at the site in Chirag Nagar. Search and rescue teams from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, the Mumbai Police, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the 108 ambulance service were rushed to the spot to assist victims and locate trapped individuals.
A total of 11 casualties were recorded from the disaster, according to information provided by Kurla Bhabha Hospital and Rajawadi Hospital. Emergency responders rescued four injured residents from the scene and transferred them to medical facilities for treatment.
The four injured victims were identified as Sohel Ansari, 18, Mohammad Ansari, 14, Naimuddhin Eqbal Khan, 28, and Sajid Ansari, 16. All four individuals were admitted to Kurla Bhabha Hospital, where officials confirmed they are in stable condition.
According to Rajawadi Hospital, seven fatalities were confirmed following the landslide. The deceased include two-year-old Aban Arif Shaikh, four-year-old Manat Arif Shaikh, 27-year-old Marjina Arif Shaikh, 14-year-old Mohammad Samir Ansari, 19-year-old Sahil Husen Abdul Kazi, and 27-year-old Viket Ramesh Yadav. One victim, a 45-year-old person, has not yet been identified.
The landslide struck the residential structures during intense rainfall, prompting a wide response from city emergency and disaster management agencies to clear the area and manage the casualties.
