7-Year-Old Boy Dies After Brick Column Collapses During Dahi Handi in Malvani

A seven-year-old boy died on Saturday afternoon after a brick column collapsed on him during a local Dahi Handi celebration in the Malvani area of Malad West, civic officials confirmed.
The incident was reported around 3:01 pm at Ekta Welfare Society in Chikuwadi, Malvani. A group of local children had gathered to celebrate Dahi Handi on their own in the residential area.
According to civic officials, a rope used for the Dahi Handi celebration had been tied between a tree and a brick column that supported a ground-floor structure. The setup gave way while the children were attempting to break the handi.
The strain caused the brick column to collapse directly onto seven-year-old Rudra Kadam. The falling debris caused severe head injuries to the child.
Rudra was immediately rushed by locals and bystanders to the nearby Malvani General Hospital for emergency medical treatment. However, hospital authorities later informed civic officials that the boy was declared brought dead on arrival.
Following the fatal accident, local municipal ward staff and police personnel were mobilized to the spot to inspect the premises and initiate inquiries. Officials confirmed the specific location of the collapse as Room No. 23, Ekta Welfare Society, situated along Marve Road in Chikuwadi, Malvani, Malad West. Further details regarding the incident are awaited.
