71-Year-Old Woman Dies in Hit-and-Run on Bhandup West Quarry Road

A 71-year-old woman died at Criti Care Hospital after sustaining critical injuries in a hit-and-run accident on Quarry Road in Bhandup West. Following her death, the Bhandup police registered a case against an unidentified two-wheeler rider who allegedly fled the scene after the collision.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the incident occurred on August 31 at around 5.30 pm. The victim, identified as Jaywanti Namdev Panchal, was walking towards a nearby temple when a speeding two-wheeler travelling along Quarry Road allegedly rammed into her. The rider fled the spot immediately after the crash without stopping to offer help.

The complainant in the case is the victim's son, Sanjay Namdev Panchal, 56, who works as an employee with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The family resides at Kaju Tekdi in the Bhandup West area.

Following the collision, local residents rushed Jaywanti to the nearby Devki Hospital for emergency treatment. After an initial examination, doctors referred her to Criti Care Hospital for further medical care. However, her condition deteriorated, and doctors declared her dead at around 12.10 am on September 1 while she was undergoing treatment.

Bhandup police had initially recorded the accident and begun an inquiry before registering a formal FIR based on Sanjay Panchal's complaint. The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) alongside provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.

The unidentified rider faces accusations of causing a fatal accident and fleeing the area without providing medical assistance to the injured woman or alerting local authorities. Bhandup police have launched an investigation and are actively searching to identify and trace the absconding rider.
