An eight-year-old boy died after an Innova Crysta allegedly hit him while he was crossing St John Baptist Road in Bandra West on Sunday afternoon. Bandra police arrested the driver of the vehicle, identified as 45-year-old Megha Rawal.

The deceased was identified as Ansh Gupta, a resident of the Kadeshwar area in Bandra West. According to the police, the incident took place between 2.15pm and 2.30pm. Ansh had stepped out of his house to play and was returning home from a garden when he attempted to cross the road.

An eyewitness at the scene claimed that Rawal was overspeeding and talking on her mobile phone when the accident occurred. Police officials stated that the allegation regarding phone use and speeding would be independently verified during the investigation.

Following the collision, Rawal stopped the vehicle a short distance ahead after bystanders shouted at her, according to another eyewitness. An auto-rickshaw driver at the spot picked up the severely injured child, placed him in his vehicle, and rushed him to Holy Hospital in Bandra West.
