82-Year-Old Pedestrian Dies After Being Hit by Teen Motorcyclist in Andheri West

An 82-year-old pedestrian died after a teenage motorcyclist rammed into him on Sunday on Lokhandwala Back Road in Andheri West, Mumbai. The victim, Radhakrishna KP Menon, was on his way to meet his granddaughter when the collision occurred.
The Versova police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the motorcyclist, 18-year-old Rachit Singh, charging him with rash driving and negligence. Singh, who was also injured during the collision, was admitted to a hospital.
Menon was walking from his residence in Four Bungalows to his son Sreejit's home in SVP Nagar, a routine walk of a few kilometers he took every evening. Sreejit stated that he had previously argued with his father about the safety of the walk, advising him to take an auto or an app-based cab instead.
Sreejit received a phone call from his father's phone number at approximately 7:25 p.m. on Sunday. A stranger answered the call and informed Sreejit that his father was injured in a road crash and advised him to rush to the location near Second Cross Lane. Sreejit confirmed with his mother that his father was out for his walk before rushing to the scene.
Upon arrival, Sreejit found his father lying unconscious on the street with massive injuries from the impact of the crash. Passersby at the scene noted that the teenage motorcyclist was also injured and had been taken to the hospital.
The victim's family cremated Menon on Monday. Following the tragedy, the family has called for pedestrian-friendly infrastructure and stricter traffic enforcement on Lokhandwala Back Road. Sreejit pointed out that the pavement on his father's walking route was in shambles.
Dhaval Shah of the Lokhandwala Oshiwara Citizens' Association said they have proposed that the traffic department install automatic number plate recognition cameras to capture speeding vehicles and issue challans. Shah added that the teenager was riding a powerful bike at high speed.
This is not the first major accident on Lokhandwala Back Road. In March 2025, a 54-year-old woman and her 31-year-old daughter suffered severe injuries after being hit by a speeding car driven by a 19-year-old college student while out for a walk.
