Aaditya Thackeray Demands Centre Approach SC to Quash NEET Protester FIRs

Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray on Thursday urged the central government to approach the Supreme Court under Article 142 to quash all FIRs registered against students during protests over the NEET-UG exam paper leak. Speaking in Mumbai, Thackeray also questioned the state government's process for withdrawing cases against student protesters in Maharashtra.

The demand from the Shiv Sena (UBT) leader came days after the Supreme Court clarified that an earlier order would not prevent respective state governments from taking steps to close or withdraw proceedings. The apex court noted that states could close or withdraw proceedings arising out of FIRs registered against student protesters in accordance with the law.

Following the court's clarification, Thackeray called on the Centre to take decisive action by moving the Supreme Court under Article 142 to ensure that all cases filed against the demonstrating students across the country are fully quashed.
