Abhijit Ganguly Alleges Fake Accident Scam Attempt Near Juhu's JVPD Scheme
Standup comedian Abhijit Ganguly warned motorists against an alleged roadside fake accident scam in Juhu after a man falsely accused him of hitting him with his car and demanded cash compensation. In a video posted on Instagram on Sunday night, Ganguly said the incident occurred while he was driving from the Juhu Vile Parle Development (JVPD) Scheme towards the Western Express Highway.
According to Ganguly, a man suddenly approached his vehicle and claimed that the car had struck him, causing an injury to his hand. The man showed Ganguly a red mark on his hand to insist that he had been hurt in the encounter.
The individual then demanded cash compensation, claiming he was a driver who had lost approximately Rs 8,000 in earnings because of the alleged incident. Ganguly stated that he was initially shaken by the sudden confrontation and attempted to calm the man down.
However, Ganguly grew suspicious and offered to take the man to a nearby trauma care hospital for a medical examination. Although the man continued complaining of pain and financial losses, he changed his stance upon learning that the medical evaluation could take around half an hour.
The man then insisted on settling the issue immediately by demanding cash. When Ganguly decided to involve the police, the man's behaviour changed immediately. He discouraged Ganguly from calling the authorities and instead asked how much money he was willing to pay.
As Ganguly stood his ground and began contacting the police, the man refused to share his contact details or allow his photograph to be taken before fleeing the spot. Ganguly still managed to capture a picture of the alleged scammer before he escaped.
Reflecting on the encounter, Ganguly noted several details that appeared suspicious. He stated that the mark on the man's hand looked old and that the alleged position of impact was inconsistent with how a pedestrian would normally be struck by a vehicle. He added that the man's panic and escape after police involvement was mentioned strengthened his belief that the entire episode was staged.
Ganguly has advised motorists to remain alert when confronted by strangers making sudden injury or accident claims, urging drivers to involve the police rather than agreeing to cash settlements under pressure.
