AC Failure On Mumbai Local Train Leaves One Hospitalised After Commuters Suffocate

A major air-conditioning failure on a packed local train during the Monday morning rush hour left several commuters suffocated and led to the hospitalization of one passenger between Mulund and Kurla.
The incident occurred on the 8:33 AM Titwala-CSMT AC local train, also identified as the Titwala-18 train, which was heading towards Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. The air-conditioning system developed a failure mid-journey, trapping passengers inside the sealed coaches during the peak commuting hours.
As the train became increasingly hot and stuffy, passengers began experiencing severe discomfort. Multiple commuters suffered from suffocation inside the crowded compartments, and a few individuals briefly fainted. One commuter required urgent medical assistance and had to be transported to a hospital.
Following intense complaints from the distressed commuters, railway staff took the decision to run the train with its doors open to facilitate airflow. The train operated with open doors specifically on the section of the route between Mulund and Kurla stations to provide ventilation to the suffering passengers.
The train service was ultimately cancelled at Kurla station. After all passengers were deboarded, the train was taken out of service and sent directly to the Kurla car shed.
