ACB Books Two BMC M-East Ward Engineers Over Rs 3.5 Lakh Bribe Demand in Govandi

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered a case against two Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) engineers and a private individual for allegedly demanding a Rs 3.5 lakh bribe from a contractor in Govandi, officials said on Wednesday, October 1, 2026.
The alleged extortion came in exchange for processing and clearing bills related to civic works executed within the jurisdiction of the BMC's M-East Ward.
According to an ACB official, the complainant is a civic contractor who had undertaken municipal works in the Govandi area. After the work was carried out, the accused allegedly sought financial kickbacks to process and approve the pending clearance bills.
Following the demand for Rs 3.5 lakh, the contractor refused to pay the illegal gratification and instead approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau to lodge an official complaint against the civic staff and the intermediary.
Based on the complaint, the ACB registered a criminal case against the two BMC engineers and the private individual. An investigation has been initiated into the matter.
