Activists Protest at Kalwa Hospital Over Cockroach Allegedly Found in Food

Members of the Konkan Environment and Public Welfare Society staged a sit-in protest inside the dean's chamber at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa on Monday, demanding accountability and immediate administrative action over hospital hygiene standards.

The demonstration occurred four days after a cockroach was allegedly discovered in food served to a patient at the facility on the night of August 28. The discovery sparked outrage among civic activists, escalating into direct agitation at the civic-run hospital premises.

During the protest in Kalwa, the activist group highlighted lapses in the hospital's response, pointing out that the administration had neither initiated an official inquiry nor visited the affected patient in the days immediately following the incident.

Following the sit-in demonstration inside the office of Dean Dr Swapnali Kadam, the hospital administration initiated preliminary steps to address the grievance. Dean Kadam visited the patient to review the matter firsthand.

Additionally, Dr Aniruddha Malgaonkar, superintendent of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital, recorded the patient's official account regarding the food served on August 28 as part of the initial examination into the complaint.
