Actor Rupa Dutta Granted Bail in Rs 1.48 Lakh Colaba Theft Case

A Metropolitan Magistrate's Court has granted bail to 43-year-old actor Rupa Umashankar Dutta following her arrest last week for allegedly stealing valuables worth Rs 1.48 lakh in Colaba.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate RS Bhosale (Narsale) granted bail to Dutta on a personal bond of Rs 50,000. As part of the bail conditions, the court directed that she must not tamper with the evidence in the case or leave India without the court's permission.
The case originates from a complaint lodged with the Colaba police by Dimple Singhvi, a resident of Marine Drive. According to the complaint, Singhvi's purse was stolen while she was moving through crowded areas between Babulnath Temple and Colaba.
The stolen items reported by the complainant included a diamond-studded gold bracelet valued at Rs 1.20 lakh, cash amounting to Rs 10,000, Apple AirPods worth Rs 15,000, along with a wallet and other personal documents.
During the course of the investigation, the Colaba police reviewed CCTV footage from the area, which showed Dutta tailing the victim. Police subsequently arrested Dutta and recovered some of the stolen property from her possession.
In court, advocate Sunil Pandey, representing Dutta, argued that the accused had been falsely implicated in the matter and was a victim of circumstances.
Dutta is an actress who has worked in Bengali and Hindi movies, including 'Sathi', as well as the Hindi television serial 'Jai Maa Vaishnodevi'. She previously made headlines in 2022 after being arrested for alleged pickpocketing at the Kolkata Book Fair.
