Actress Antara Banerjee Booked by Borivali GRP After RPF Assault on Train
Model and web series actress Antara Banerjee, 31, was arrested after allegedly stripping and attacking Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel with a razor blade aboard the Aravali Express between Borivali and Dahanu on the night of August 12. The incident followed a dispute over her travelling in a reserved air-conditioned coach with a sleeper-class ticket.
Banerjee was travelling to Surat for a shoot when she entered the reserved AC compartment. The confrontation began between 9:30 pm and 10:50 pm when another passenger asked her to vacate the reserved berth. When she refused, the passenger alerted ticket collector Harikesh Tripathi and the RPF.
RPF assistant sub-inspector Yaminikant Mishra and constable Rajesh Kumar intervened to resolve the dispute. According to the First Information Report (FIR), Banerjee verbally abused the railway officials and turned violent. Police stated that she then undressed, produced a blade, and attacked Mishra, leaving both the officer and herself injured. Mishra also alleged that Banerjee damaged his uniform and mobile phone during the scuffle.
To contain the situation and prevent further escalation, RPF personnel secured the doors of the AC coach. Banerjee reportedly attempted to break the coach glass to escape before she was deboarded at Dahanu railway station. She was handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) after the disruption, which lasted over an hour and left passengers shaken.
The following morning, Banerjee was taken into custody by the Borivali railway police. Borivali GRP inspector Kunda Gavade noted that eyewitnesses believed the actress was distressed after being unable to secure a ticket in the AC coach. Officials stated that Banerjee refused to contact family members or seek legal counsel, insisting instead that she be arrested. According to Gavade, she calmed down once the FIR was registered.
The FIR registered on August 13 named Banerjee as the accused. She was booked under provisions for endangering passenger safety, causing grievous harm to public servants, assault, and intentional insult. Police subsequently served her a notice and released her on bail.
