Actress Pooja Chopra recalls mother resisting pressure to abort her

Juhu actress Pooja Chopra recently shared a deeply emotional account of her family's past during an appearance on the television show 'Tum Ho Naa'. The actress, who is best known for her role in the film 'Commando: A One Man Army', broke down in tears while recalling the severe pressure her mother faced to abort her simply because she was a girl.

During her appearance on the television show, Chopra spoke candidly about her mother's unwavering support throughout her life. She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to her mother for choosing to bring her into the world despite facing immense opposition from her father.

Chopra revealed the painful family history, explaining that her father had pressured her mother to abort her when she was merely 20 days old, solely because she was a girl. Instead of submitting to this pressure, Chopra's mother refused to comply with his demands. She chose to leave the marriage entirely, taking on the difficult task of raising Chopra and her sister all by herself.

Reflecting on her mother's courage and the immense sacrifices she made to protect her children, Chopra became highly emotional during the episode. "Mummy ke liye to jitna bolu utna kam hi hoga," she said.

Chopra credited her mother's resilience and brave decisions for her survival, stating, "Aaj main zinda hoon." She went on to describe her mother as her biggest superstar for stepping up to raise her daughters in the face of adversity.

The actress's public recollection highlights her mother's strength in resisting gender discrimination and the societal pressures of female foeticide in India, bringing wider attention to the resilience required to overcome such challenges.
