Advocate Arvind Singh files complaint over Cockroach Janta Party Instagram followers
A Bombay High Court advocate has filed a complaint in Mumbai seeking a cyber forensic investigation into the Instagram account of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP). The complainant, advocate Arvind Singh, submitted a representation to the Mumbai Police Commissioner alleging digital manipulation and artificial inflation of the political party's social media follower count.
According to the complaint, the CJP's Instagram account has witnessed unusual fluctuations, including repeated artificial spikes and drops in its follower count on multiple occasions. To support these allegations, Singh submitted screenshots, screen recordings, and an open-source observation report prepared by a cyber expert to the Mumbai Police.
Singh stated that the artificial inflation of a social media account's popularity could mislead the general public as well as individuals associated with public life. He emphasized that a technical and impartial investigation is necessary to establish the facts of the matter.
The advocate clarified that his complaint does not directly accuse any specific individual or organization. Instead, it seeks an independent cyber forensic examination of the available digital evidence to ensure transparency and maintain public trust in social media platforms.
Following the submission of the complaint, the Mumbai Police issued a notice to Singh's law firm to record a statement. However, police officials later instructed them to wait, citing jurisdiction-related procedures. The matter is currently under examination by the authorities.
The complaint urges the Mumbai Police to conduct a detailed investigation to determine if artificial follower growth occurred, identify those responsible, find the source of funding, and check for the use of third-party services. It also requests investigators to look into the possible involvement of external or foreign entities if evidence points in that direction.
The allegations have not been independently verified, and no official findings have been released by the investigating agencies. The authenticity of the claims will be established only after the Mumbai Police complete their investigation.
