Agarbazar Seniors Urge BMC to Add Footpath Slope Near Sahakari Bazaar

Senior citizens residing in Agarbazar in Mumbai's G North ward have approached the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) seeking the construction of a pedestrian slope or the installation of a supporting rod along a footpath near Sahakari bazaar.
The civic issue directly impacts elderly residents who walk to the local Sahakari bazaar to purchase their daily groceries. According to local resident Sugandha Karapurkar, the existing footpath is constructed too high above the road level, leaving senior citizens without a safe or manageable way to climb onto the walkway.
Karapurkar pointed out that there is currently neither a walking slope nor a supporting rod along the curb to help pedestrians step up from the road. In contrast, a vehicular ramp has been provided just a few feet away to allow cars to access a paid parking facility, while pedestrian accessibility remains unaddressed.
Highlighting the daily difficulties faced by elderly shoppers in the neighbourhood, Karapurkar stated that senior citizens would benefit greatly if the BMC built a ramp or fixed a supporting rod on one side of the footpath.
The Agarbazar area falls under the jurisdiction of the BMC's G North ward office. Residents have raised the issue with the civic body in the hope that municipal officials will carry out the necessary civil work to ensure safe access to the local market.
