AIPC Bars 22 Companies From IIT Placements Over Revoked Offers to 150 Students

The All IITs Placement Committee (AIPC) has barred 22 companies from participating in campus placements and internships for the next two seasons after they withdrew job offers extended to approximately 150 students across campuses. The action follows instances of non-cooperation by these recruiters after placement officials met in Mumbai and across the country to resolve the hiring disputes from the 2025-26 placement season.

Placement teams from across the Indian Institutes of Technology met in early September to address the revoked offers and approached the defaulting companies to urge them to honour their commitments. While some recruiters agreed to take students on board at a later date in October or November and began issuing written commitments, 22 firms stated they could no longer employ the selected candidates, while others failed to respond to calls from placement heads.

According to AIPC convenor Prof John Jose, the barred firms operated primarily in the software, data science, and edtech sectors, with information technology and software companies making up the largest share. Many of the affected students were among the top academic performers who had secured positions during the first week of recruitment.

Prof Jose noted that several of the non-cooperating firms were legacy recruiters and popular choices among students. He stated that the companies cited financial strain, altered business models, and project cancellations as reasons for revoking the offers, leaving them unable to add staff to their payrolls as originally planned.

Following the cancellations, individual IIT placement committees initiated efforts to assist the impacted candidates by approaching alternative recruiters. Prof Jose said about 20 to 25 percent of the affected students were successfully placed through these interventions. Other students have been pursuing employment outside the campus placement system by seeking referrals, tapping informal networks, and pursuing lateral hiring opportunities.

For students who remain without employment, their ability to participate in campus recruitment again will be determined individually by their respective institutes. The upcoming 2026-27 placement season is scheduled to begin on December 1, and each IIT will decide whether affected graduates can re-enter the process.
