Airoli-Kalwa Elevated Suburban Corridor Hits 45% Progress Amid Land Delays

The Airoli-Kalwa elevated suburban corridor has recorded 45 per cent progress, according to a project update released by the Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC).

The infrastructure project, designed to improve suburban rail connectivity between Airoli and Kalwa, has been sanctioned at a cost of Rs 476 crore and is being executed in two separate phases.

While Phase-I of the corridor is now completed, progress on Phase-II has encountered delays linked to pending land acquisition and rehabilitation requirements.

Execution of the project requires a total of 2.40 hectares of land. Out of the required area, 1.87 hectares of government land has already been acquired by authorities. However, the acquisition of 0.53 hectares of private land remains pending, holding up further execution.

To facilitate the construction of the rail corridor, authorities had earlier carried out demolition drives targeting slums situated along the designated alignment.
