Amboli Police arrest Andheri West hit-and-run suspect Sabir Shaikh in Rajasthan

The Amboli Police have arrested a man in Rajasthan four days after he allegedly knocked down and critically injured an eight-year-old girl in a hit-and-run incident in Andheri West, Mumbai.

The accused, identified as Sabir Shaikh, was tracked down after investigators scanned nearly 100 CCTV cameras to reconstruct his escape route.

According to the police, the accident occurred on July 15 when the victim, Reva Pawar, was walking to her tuition class. Shaikh was allegedly riding a scooter on the wrong side of the road with a pillion passenger when he struck the child, throwing her onto the road. Both riders fled the scene immediately after the collision without offering assistance.

Reva was rushed to Cooper Hospital for treatment, prompting hospital staff to notify the authorities. The Amboli Police then registered an FIR and deployed multiple teams to find the suspects.

The lack of a registration number plate on the scooter posed a significant challenge for the police. Investigators believe the plate was intentionally left off to evade identification. To bypass this obstacle, officers analyzed footage from nearly 100 CCTV cameras across Andheri and adjacent areas to trace the scooter's movements, eventually tracking Shaikh to Rajasthan.

The pillion passenger remains at large, though police have identified him and suspect he is hiding in Dharavi. Multiple police teams are actively working to apprehend him.

Reva has since been discharged from the hospital but requires two months of complete bed rest. A relative stated she remains under medical supervision and medication, and her studies have been severely disrupted.

Shaikh is being brought back to Mumbai, where he will undergo interrogation regarding the incident and any potential past offenses.
