Ameet Satam Urges BMC to Fund ISRO and Overseas Study Trips for Civic School Students

Mumbai BJP chief Ameet Satam has urged the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to sponsor educational study trips to the Indian Space Research Organisation and abroad to Singapore or Japan for meritorious civic school students.

In a letter addressed to BMC chief Ashwini Bhide and Mayor Ritu Tawde, Satam proposed selecting 50 meritorious students from Class 8 and 50 from Class 9. Under the plan, the Class 8 students would visit ISRO, while the Class 9 students would travel to either Singapore or Japan to gain exposure to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

Satam noted that the initiative aims to help students develop practical skills beyond standard classroom learning. He pointed out that budgetary provisions under the civic body's 'Teach Mumbai' head could be utilised to finance the travel and logistics for the selected students.

He also referenced the civic administration's ongoing efforts to modernise education infrastructure, including plans to inaugurate the BMC's first school equipped with an artificial intelligence and robotics laboratory in Juhu.

The proposal coincided with a four-hour review meeting held by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde at his official residence, Nandanvan, in Mumbai. Shinde met with School Education Minister Dada Bhuse and senior department officials to review the state's education sector.

During the meeting, Shinde directed the state education department to draft a time-bound action plan aimed at upgrading government schools, improving teacher training, and upgrading nutrition and health check-up initiatives across Maharashtra.
