Amravati MLC Kiran Sarnaik Joins Eknath Shinde Led Shiv Sena

Independent Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) Kiran Sarnaik, who represents the Amravati Teachers' constituency, has formally joined the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena party as an associate member. The political transition was finalized late on Wednesday night, July 1, 2026, in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, marking a notable shift in the state's legislative dynamics.

The development provides a direct boost to the ruling Shiv Sena's strength in Maharashtra. Sarnaik, who previously served as an independent legislator in the Maharashtra Legislative Council, chose to align with the Shinde-led faction during the late-night meeting.

By securing Sarnaik as an associate member, the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena has further consolidated its political presence. Sarnaik officially formalized his entry into the party alongside Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who welcomed the Amravati representative to the ruling fold.

Prior to this transition, Sarnaik held his legislative seat independently. His decision to join the Shiv Sena as an associate member is expected to strengthen the ruling coalition's position within the state legislature as they continue to build political support across Maharashtra's constituencies.
