Andheri Driver Booked for Assaulting Police After Wrong-Way Driving

A 26-year-old video editor from Andheri faces multiple criminal charges after allegedly driving the wrong way at high speed on a one-way street and assaulting police officers who attempted to penalise him on Wednesday evening. The confrontation took place around 6:30 PM on 90 Feet Road near the Evershine Cosmic Building.

According to police reports, the incident began when constables Madhav Shirsath and Kishor Bhaurao Bhutekar of the Oshiwara Traffic Police spotted Saksham Kumar Ashok Kumar driving against traffic. The constables signalled for Kumar to pull over, but he initially ignored their instructions. He only brought the vehicle to a halt after the officers began photographing his car to issue an e-challan, at which point he stepped out and questioned their authority.

Police accounts and witnesses stated that Kumar grew increasingly aggressive and argumentative, shouting at the constables and using abusive language. When informed that he was driving on the wrong side of the road, Kumar reportedly began recording the exchange on his mobile phone and made false allegations that the officers had damaged his car and physically assaulted him.

As the confrontation escalated, Constable Shirsath called for backup from the Amboli police station. When the additional personnel arrived at the scene, Kumar continued to resist, creating a disturbance, pushing a constable’s hand away, and shoving him. Officers were forced to use minimal force to restrain him and escort him into a police vehicle.

The hostility continued after Kumar was transported to the police station. Officers reported that he remained completely uncooperative, refused to share his personal details, spoke aggressively, and issued threats to an officer. He also attempted to walk out of the station premises but was intercepted and stopped by duty personnel.

Kumar has now been booked under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including charges of assaulting or using criminal force against a public servant, endangering life, causing grievous hurt, rash driving, and criminal intimidation. He also faces charges of dangerous driving under the Motor Vehicle Act, and his car has been seized as part of the ongoing investigation.
