Andheri Records 243 mm of Rain as Intense Monsoon Downpour Batters Mumbai

The suburban locality of Andheri recorded 243 mm of rainfall over the past 24 hours as an intense spell of monsoon rain and strong winds battered Mumbai. The heavy downpour left roads waterlogged and prompted weather officials to warn of continued wet weather over the next 24 to 48 hours.
According to local weather forecaster and lawyer Rushikesh Agre, the rainfall measurements across the city highlighted the intensity of the storm. Kharghar recorded the highest rainfall at 386 mm, followed by Vikhroli at 303 mm, Nepean Sea Road at 298 mm, Powai at 277 mm, Colaba at 266 mm, and Mulund at 257 mm. Andheri's 243 mm and Santacruz's 227 mm also marked significant downpours in the western suburbs.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) aligned with these findings, having previously warned of an intense monsoon spell over Mumbai and its surrounding regions.
Forecasters have described the next 36 hours as critical for the city. Agre warned that Mumbai is likely to witness plenty more rainfall over the next 24 to 48 hours. This continued precipitation could help increase the water levels in the lakes and catchment areas that supply water to the city.
During the deluge, residents turned to social media to share videos and photos of the weather's impact, documenting waterlogged streets, powerful winds, and reduced visibility. Despite the adverse conditions, several social media users praised Mumbai's suburban railway network for continuing its operations.
Other residents expressed concerns regarding flooding in low-lying areas, including parts of Navi Mumbai, and raised questions about potential work-from-home advisories.
In light of the ongoing weather conditions, authorities have advised citizens to stay alert, avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall, and monitor official weather updates. Agre also urged residents to remain cautious as heavy rainfall and strong winds continue to affect the region.
