Andheri West Pipeline Burst Floods Link Road and Disrupts Water Supply

A major water pipeline burst near the SAB TV Junction on Link Road in Shastri Nagar, Andheri West, on Thursday afternoon, causing significant road flooding, traffic disruptions, and temporary water cuts in the surrounding areas. The incident occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m. during peak water supply hours, resulting in massive water wastage and severe inconvenience for local motorists and pedestrians.

The rupture, which occurred close to Sanskar Jyot High School, caused large volumes of water to gush onto the busy road during peak supply hours, inundating the stretch. Videos circulated on social media showed powerful jets of water shooting several feet into the air as vehicles cautiously navigated the heavily waterlogged road.

According to officials from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) K-West ward water works department, the pipeline had weakened over time. An official explained that the pipeline passes over a nallah and had gradually bent, leading to cracks that eventually caused the burst.

The incident immediately disrupted the local water supply to nearby areas, including Four Bungalows and DN Nagar, between 12:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. Civic officials stated that alternate arrangements were quickly made to restore the supply through another source while repair work was undertaken.

The issue was first flagged on the social media platform X by Andheri LOCA, a local citizens’ group. The group tagged the BMC to demand immediate action, describing the incident as a case of "massive water wastage."

In response to the complaints, the BMC confirmed that the matter had been registered through its grievance redressal system. Civic officials deployed repair teams to the site and expected the repair works to be completed by the end of the day.
