AP Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan Undergoes Right Shoulder Surgery at Mumbai Hospital

Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan underwent a three-and-a-half-hour surgery on his right shoulder to treat a severe rotator cuff injury at a hospital in Mumbai on Saturday morning, July 11, 2026. The medical procedure was aimed at providing long-term relief from the persistent injury.
According to an official press release, the surgery on his right shoulder was completed successfully. However, this is only the first phase of his medical treatment, as a second surgery for his left shoulder, which also suffers from an injured rotator cuff, is scheduled to be performed in two months.
Medical professionals advised against operating on both of Mr. Kalyan's shoulders simultaneously. The doctors noted that undergoing bilateral surgery would likely cause his pain to aggravate significantly during the post-operative recovery phase.
The origin of the Deputy Chief Minister's shoulder injuries dates back to 2016. Although doctors had advised him to take rest after administering first aid at the time of the initial injury, Mr. Kalyan continued to actively participate in various public and political programs.
The condition of his shoulders deteriorated further during his Porata Yatra in 2018. During this tour, enthusiastic party cadres and fans frequently pulled his hands and shook them in their eagerness to get close to their leader. This constant physical contact caused significant pain, which intensified in the subsequent period.
The injuries became even more serious during his Varahi Yatra and his extensive tour of the Rayalaseema region following the 2019 elections. The physical strain on his shoulders increased heavily during these tours, but Mr. Kalyan chose to ignore his medical condition to continue his work.
Following the news of the operation in Mumbai, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed his support. Chief Minister Naidu wished Mr. Kalyan a speedy recovery and good health as he begins his recuperation.
