Army Soldier Arrested in Washim for Allegedly Murdering Pregnant Wife

A 28-year-old Indian Army soldier posted with the 6th Maratha Battalion has been arrested in Maharashtra’s Washim district for allegedly strangling his seven-month pregnant wife to death and attempting to stage the killing as an accident.

The accused, identified as Dnyaneshwar Madne, was taken into custody after police registered a murder case against him and his parents following a formal complaint filed by the victim’s family.

According to the victim’s brother, Rahul Madne, the accused called the family around 3 pm last Thursday, claiming that his wife, Deepali, had slipped at their residence. He informed them that she was being taken to a healthcare facility for medical attention.

Madne initially brought Deepali to a private hospital, which subsequently referred her to a government-run facility. Doctors at the government hospital examined the victim, suspected foul play in her death, and promptly notified law enforcement.

Senior police officer Manish Thackeray confirmed that police received an official memo from the government hospital stating that a woman’s body had been brought to the facility in an ambulance.

The victim’s brother alleged that Madne was involved in an affair with another woman and had repeatedly subjected Deepali to harassment regarding the relationship. Based on the complaint, Washim police registered a murder case against Madne and his parents.
