Arun Balu Patil Elected Thane DCC Bank Chairperson As Mahayuti Wins Control

The BJP–Shiv Sena (Mahayuti) alliance has taken control of the Thane District Central Cooperative (DCC) Bank in Thane after winning the elections for the top leadership positions of Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson. The victory, which followed recently concluded board elections, successfully ended the long-standing dominance of the Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA) over the cooperative institution.
Arun Balu Patil was elected as the new Chairperson of the Thane DCC Bank, while Bhagyashree Nilesh Bhoir secured the position of Vice-Chairperson. The election results mark a major political shift for the bank's administration, which had been under the control of the BVA for a long period.
BJP Maharashtra President and MLA Ravindra Chavan alongside Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde emerged as the key architects behind the alliance's victory. To challenge the BVA's control, Chavan and Shinde employed a strategy of fielding BJP and Shiv Sena candidates across two different panels—the Sahakar Panel and the Parivartan Panel—rather than supporting a single unified front.
This strategy proved highly effective during the board elections. A combined total of 14 directors backed by the BJP–Shiv Sena alliance were elected across the two panels, while the BVA managed to secure only seven director seats. This substantial majority allowed the Mahayuti alliance to comfortably claim the bank's top leadership posts in the subsequent internal voting.
The election also brought notable internal political developments within the alliance. BJP leaders Kisan Kathore and Kapil Patil, who had previously run against each other in the board elections under different panels, came together to support the alliance during the Chairperson election. Political observers credited this display of unity to the strategy of Ravindra Chavan. On the other hand, the Shiv Sena reportedly experienced one cross-vote during the election.
Ultimately, the outcome represents a significant political victory for both Chavan and Shinde, as they successfully dismantled the BVA's long-standing control over the Thane DCC Bank.
