Assembly Debates Kalyan East Safety And Rs 600 Crore Titwala Housing Racket

On Friday, the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly witnessed heated debates over deteriorating law and order in Kalyan East and a massive Rs 600 crore illegal housing racket spanning Titwala, Manda, Balyani, Umbarni, and Nevali. BJP legislators raised these issues during the session, demanding immediate state intervention, stricter enforcement, and the suspension of complicit officials.

Raising concerns over women's safety, BJP MLA Sulabha Gaikwad highlighted two separate sexual assault cases involving minor girls in Kalyan East, which occurred within a single week. Describing the incidents as deeply disturbing, Gaikwad urged the state government to provide maximum financial assistance to the victims' families.

Gaikwad also pressed for the immediate establishment of a new police station at Nevali. She argued that a dedicated police station is essential to strengthen local policing and curb rising crime in the rapidly expanding locality.

The discussion then turned to the rampant spread of unauthorized constructions in the region. BJP MLA Pravin Darekar introduced a Calling Attention Motion targeting the mushrooming of illegal chawls in Titwala, Manda, Balyani, and Umbarni. Darekar demanded the dismissal of government officials who allowed these unauthorized structures to flourish.

Darekar alleged that a powerful land mafia had developed hundreds of illegal housing units, disrupting planned urban development. He stated that transactions worth nearly Rs 600 crore were conducted through these unauthorized projects, bypassing the state exchequer entirely. Local residents have raised concerns over suspected money laundering and called for an investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

The debate highlighted that the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) had previously demolished 380 illegal rooms. Despite this action, illegal developers reportedly continued to market properties through aggressive social media campaigns, including an advertisement offering "One room free on the purchase of 10 rooms."

Following a complaint by KDMC Assistant Commissioner Jaywant Chaudhari, the Titwala Police registered a case against Manish Chavan in connection with the promotional campaign. The controversial advertisement has drawn widespread criticism regarding how unauthorized construction activities persisted despite administrative and criminal actions.
