Auto and Taxi Fares Rise Across Thane and MMR Under Revised Transport Tariffs
Commuters across Thane and the wider Mumbai Metropolitan Region will face higher travel expenses following a revision of auto-rickshaw and taxi fares that took effect from midnight on Monday, September 1. The state transport department issued the revised tariff cards on Sunday to serve as an official reference for both passengers and drivers until vehicle meters are recalibrated.
Under the updated fare structure, the minimum auto-rickshaw fare has increased from Rs 26 to Rs 27 for the first 1.5 kilometres. For subsequent travel, the per-kilometre rate has been fixed at Rs 18.22, rounded off to the nearest rupee.
Taxi fares have also seen an upward revision. The minimum fare for taxis has risen from Rs 31 to Rs 33 for the first 1.5 kilometres, with subsequent travel priced at Rs 21.90 per kilometre.
The price adjustment impacts routine travel across varying distances. An auto-rickshaw ride covering 2 kilometres now costs Rs 36, compared to the earlier fare of Rs 34. A 5-kilometre journey in an auto-rickshaw costs Rs 91 instead of Rs 86, while a 10-kilometre trip has increased to Rs 182 from the previous rate of Rs 171.
For taxi commuters, a 2-kilometre journey now costs Rs 44, up from Rs 41. A 5-kilometre taxi trip has risen to Rs 110 from Rs 103, and a 10-kilometre ride costs Rs 219, compared with Rs 207 prior to the revision.
The state transport department confirmed that the revised tariff applies universally across all jurisdictions in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, encompassing Thane, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Mira-Bhayander, Kalyan, and surrounding areas.
