Bandra Police Book Kurla Man After Minor Son Caught Riding Scooter on Hill Road

Bandra police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against a 45-year-old driver from Kurla after his 17-year-old son was intercepted while riding a scooter without a licence on Hill Road in Bandra West.
The incident occurred during a police nakabandi on August 19. Officers stationed at the checkpoint stopped the junior college student after he rode the two-wheeler for nearly nine kilometres. When asked to show his driving documentation, the teenager failed to produce a valid licence. Police subsequently verified his Aadhaar card, which established that he was a minor.
According to police officials, the teenager stated during questioning that his father, identified as Razza Abdul Rehman Shaikh, had handed him the scooter along with the key. Following the verification, the vehicle was seized by the authorities. Shaikh was detained by the Bandra police and later released after being served a formal legal notice.
A traffic police officer noted that under the law, if an underage individual is found operating a vehicle without either a learner's or a standard driving licence, legal proceedings can be initiated directly against the parent or the registered owner of the vehicle.
Under these provisions, a parent or vehicle owner found guilty can face a monetary penalty of up to Rs 25,000, imprisonment for up to three years, or both. Minors caught driving under such circumstances also face strict legal measures, including being barred from obtaining a learner's or permanent driving licence until they reach the age of 25.
