Bandra Police Book Nargis Dutt Nagar Resident Over Forged Birth Certificate
The Bandra Police have registered an FIR against a resident of Nargis Dutt Nagar, Bandra West, for allegedly submitting a fake birth certificate of his father during the police verification process for an Indian passport application.
The case was registered against Rahimuddin Nizamuddin Hashmi following a complaint lodged by police constable Yogesh Raghunath Burkul (43), who is attached to Bandra Police Station. According to police, passport applications received from the Passport Office at BKC are forwarded online to the concerned local police station to verify an applicant's background and address details.
Hashmi had submitted a fresh passport application, numbered BO3066943402422, on October 3, 2023. The application was subsequently sent to Bandra Police Station for verification. During his verification on October 16, 2023, Hashmi produced a series of documents, including his Aadhaar card, PAN card, school leaving certificate, voter ID, driving licence, ration card, his mother’s Aadhaar card, a rent agreement, his landlord’s Aadhaar card, an electricity bill, and his father’s birth certificate.
During scrutiny, police questioned the authenticity of the birth certificate presented in the name of the applicant's father, Nizamuddin Khalil Hashmi, which was required under the Mumbai Police Commissioner’s Standing Order. Hashmi claimed that the document had been issued by the Registrar (Births and Deaths) at the District Hospital under the Bhadohi Municipality in Uttar Pradesh.
The papers were sent through senior officers to the Passport Branch, Special Branch-2, Mumbai. Upon scanning the QR code on the birth certificate, officials discovered that it directed them to a suspicious website instead of the official government system.
Bandra Police subsequently wrote to the Registrar (Births and Deaths) at the District Hospital in Bhadohi on April 3, 2024, seeking verification. In a written reply dated April 15, 2024, the Bhadohi Registrar informed the police that the birth certificate had not been issued by their office. Police also searched the Central Government’s Civil Registration System portal and found no corresponding record for the certificate.
Following the verification report and confirmation from the Bhadohi authorities, Bandra Police registered a case against Hashmi for submitting a forged document while applying for an Indian passport. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
