Bandra's Lilavati Hospital to Open First Overseas Facility in Kazakhstan in September

Lilavati Hospital and Research Centre in Bandra, Mumbai, is set to open its first overseas healthcare facility in Kazakhstan in September. The international super-speciality outpatient facility is part of the hospital's strategic plan to boost medical tourism and bring international patients to its main Mumbai facility for advanced medical treatment.

The Kazakhstan centre will function as a super-speciality outpatient facility offering second opinions, consultations, and comprehensive treatment planning. Specialties covered will include oncology, cardiac sciences, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopaedics, gastroenterology, urology, as well as IVF and reproductive medicine. Patients who require complex surgical interventions or specialised high-end procedures will be directly referred to Lilavati Hospital's Bandra facility in Mumbai.

Dr Ravindra Karanjekar, CEO of Lilavati Hospital and Research Centre, stated that the Kazakhstan facility will serve as a gateway for a wider planned expansion across Central Asia. The healthcare group is currently evaluating opportunities to establish similar operations in Uzbekistan, Oman, Mauritius, and Sri Lanka.

The hospital's international venture aligns with broader growth across the country's medical value travel sector. Government data shows that 5.07 lakh foreign nationals visited India specifically for medical treatment in 2025, representing roughly 5.5% of total foreign tourist arrivals. Bangladesh stood as the leading source market, with other notable patient inflows arriving from Iraq, Uzbekistan, Somalia, Turkmenistan, and Oman.

In addition to its cross-border outpatient network, Lilavati Hospital plans to add around 3,000 beds over the next five years. This broader expansion blueprint includes setting up a 300-bed dedicated cancer hospital in Ahmedabad, along with new medical facilities in New Delhi and Indore.
