BEST Bus Injures Pedestrian and Crashes Into Three Parked Vehicles in Bhandup

A 43-year-old pedestrian was injured on Wednesday morning after a BEST bus struck him while reversing in Konkan Nagar, Bhandup, before crashing into three parked vehicles. The incident occurred around 8:30 am when the driver of the bus allegedly lost control of the vehicle during the subsequent rescue efforts.
The vehicle, an Oshiwara depot bus operating on Route A-425/32, was attempting to make a right turn towards Konkan Nagar at the time of the accident. According to a preliminary accident report, the bus was unable to negotiate the turn, which prompted the driver to reverse the vehicle.
During this reversing manoeuvre, the rear of the bus struck pedestrian Atul Anant Padave. The impact trapped Padave between the reversing bus and a large tree planter.
An onlookers' group quickly gathered at the scene to rescue the trapped pedestrian. The crowd pushed the bus in an effort to free Padave. However, as the bus moved forward, the driver was unable to keep the vehicle under control.
The out-of-control bus then crashed into a nearby parking area. It struck and damaged three parked vehicles, which included two motorcycles and an autorickshaw.
Padave suffered blunt injuries to both of his thighs and sustained bleeding from the impact. The bus conductor immediately shifted the injured pedestrian to Agarwal Hospital in Mulund for medical treatment.
Following the accident, BEST officials deputed a Special Bus Inspector along with another accident inspector to the spot to handle the incident.
The Bhandup Police Station is currently processing the matter, and the procedure for registering a case is underway. The incident has raised concerns regarding the safe handling of buses in congested residential areas, particularly during reversing manoeuvres.
