BEST Bus Rams Five Vehicles After Brake Failure in Amboli, Andheri

A Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) bus suffered an alleged brake failure and rammed into four cars and an autorickshaw in Amboli, Andheri (West) on Friday evening. The incident, which occurred at approximately 6:10 pm, led to significant traffic disruptions in the local area, though officials confirmed that no fatalities have been reported.
According to officials from the BEST Traffic Control, the bus was operating on Route No. 242, which runs from Tilak Nagar to Andheri. The vehicle reportedly lost control after its brakes failed, leading to the multi-vehicle collision.
The out-of-control bus subsequently collided with four cars and an autorickshaw, causing damage to all the involved vehicles. The force of the impact left the damaged vehicles blocking a portion of the road, which immediately halted the regular flow of traffic in the busy Amboli locality.
Following the accident, emergency responders rushed to the scene to manage the situation. Personnel from the Mumbai Police and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) Mumbai Fire Brigade arrived quickly to initiate rescue operations. The emergency teams immediately began working to clear the affected stretch of the road and restore normal traffic movement.
The Mumbai Police have launched a preliminary inquiry into the incident to determine the exact sequence of events. As part of the investigation, authorities are expected to conduct a detailed inspection of the BEST bus to ascertain whether a mechanical brake failure was indeed the primary cause of the crash. Furthermore, police investigators are likely to record official statements from both the bus driver and eyewitnesses who were present at the scene during the collision.
Traffic movement in the Amboli area remained severely affected for some time following the crash. To ease the congestion, police personnel diverted passing vehicles to alternative routes and coordinated the systematic removal of the damaged cars and the autorickshaw from the roadway.
