BEST Signs 25-Year Deal With SECI for 220 MW Solar Power in Mumbai

The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) Undertaking in Mumbai has signed a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) to procure 220 MW of solar power.

The deal integrates 110 MW/440 MWh of Energy Storage Systems (ESS) alongside the solar procurement. The arrangement will help support the city's electricity requirements during evening peak demand periods.

Under the terms of the agreement, the procurement will raise BEST's renewable energy share from 33 per cent to 43 per cent, marking a significant boost to the city's green energy infrastructure.

The agreement was signed on Monday, August 31, by BEST General Manager Dr Sonia Sethi, SECI Executive Director Atulya Naik, and SECI Deputy General Manager Sanjeev Singh. Senior officials from BEST's electricity division were also present at the signing event.
