BEST to Redevelop 22 Mumbai Bus Depots Under Rs 28,000-Crore Plan

Mumbai's Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) bus depots are set to undergo a major revamp, with plans to redevelop 22 depots across the city into modern, multi-use transport and mobility hubs.

The redevelopment initiative is part of BEST's Rs 28,000-crore transformation plan. The proposed project aims to use a public-private partnership (PPP) model to unlock the economic potential of depot land across Mumbai while generating revenue to strengthen the undertaking's finances and expand its bus fleet.

Under the proposal, the depots will take on broader roles beyond traditional bus parking and maintenance. The redesigned sites will function as comprehensive hubs combining public transit services, electric mobility, passenger amenities, and commercial spaces.

According to the plan, the redeveloped facilities could accommodate modern workshops, structured parking, commercial real estate, housing developments, and dedicated electric bus infrastructure.
